Banaat FC's Dominant Display in the Capital

Banaat FC's Dominant Display in the Capital

The highly anticipated Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup took place this past weekend, bringing together top youth teams from around the region. Among the standout performances was the Banaat FC U18 Academy, with an impressive run that saw them reach the final.

Banaat FC wasted no time making an impact, securing four consecutive victories in the group stage. The opening match against UAE FA saw a slow start, but goalkeeper Lamees kept the team in the game with crucial saves. A well-worked goal from Yasmine, Angelina, and Stella sealed a 1-0 victory.

In the second match against Empire (Blue), Angelina’s goal was the difference in the tough 1-0 win, with strong defensive performances from Yasmine and Safa.

The third game against Empire (White) was a more dominant showing, with Stella scoring twice in a 2-0 win. Rafeef and Fatima were solid at the back, while Stella and Jade-Aya controlled the attack.

The fourth and final group stage game against Alliance saw another strong performance, with Stella once again scoring twice to secure a 2-0 win. Day 1 finished with Banaat FC at the top of the group, winning all 4 of their matches.

Day 2 kicked off with a match against City Football Schools. The match started with a slower tempo, but substitutions brought a higher intensity. Banaat FC dominated the rest of the match to earn a commanding 4-1 victory. Stella scored a brace, while Angelina and Yasmine also got on the scoresheet.

The quarter final against Go Pro proved to be a challenge, as the opposition’s physicality and skill in the 7v7 format made it difficult for Banaat FC to find their rhythm. A 3-0 defeat was a tough lesson, with Yasmine’s defensive performance standing out despite the loss.

The semifinal clash with Empire (Blue) was an intense matchup. Stella’s goal put Banaat FC ahead, but a late equalizer forced penalties. The team held their nerve, despite the final penalty requiring three retakes, Zoe successfully converted her attempt to send Banaat FC to the final.

In the championship match, Banaat FC faced Go Pro once again. Although they improved their performance from their previous meeting, the opposition proved too strong, and the match ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Despite falling short in the final, Banaat FC’s incredible journey at the Abu Dhabi Cup was nothing short of inspiring. Their performance underscored their growth, teamwork, and resilience as a young squad. Finishing as runners-up was a remarkable achievement, made even more impressive considering that the Banaat FC academy was founded just six months ago. Competing against well-established clubs that have been operating for much longer than Banaat FC is a testament to the team's dedication, coaching, and rapid progress.

Congratulations to our academy girls for their outstanding performance, and a special congratulations to Go Pro for their well-earned tournament victory.
